October Events

Kyle and Jared playing in a "fort" they made.
The month of October was a busy one at our house this year, but we also had lots of fun!!

Kyle lost his first tooth on October 12th.  He lost it at school and brought it home so excited.  He had been wiggling it in his mouth for well over a week.   The tooth fairy gave him a whole dollar bill and even let him keep his first one as a souvenir.

Over UEA weekend,  (Oct 17-20) Aaron's dad came down for a few days.  He and Aaron got to go golfing and also hunting on the first day of the hunt.  They saw a lot of deer but only a few bucks.  Aaron shot twice but did not get a deer that time.

The following weekend, on Oct 27th,  Aaron took Kyle out to the same area and they got a little two-point deer.  Kyle was SO EXCITED!!

On October 28th we had our primary sacrament program.  My parents came up with Jeremy and my Oma Michel.  Heidi quickly became Oma's little "buddy" and wanted to sit by her at dinner and on her lap for the rest of the evening.

A few days before Halloween, we made caramel apples.  This was my first time, and we had a lot of fun.  The kids got to decorate theirs with melted chocolate, nuts, and toffee.  Mmmm!

I was in charge of the ward Halloween party this year, being the 2nd counselor in the Relief Society.   We had a big dinner for everyone and a "carnival" for the kids, with a few booths like "fish pond", "pumpkin walk" and face painting.  We also had a costume contest.

Here are a few pictures of the kids on Halloween at their school:

This pretty witch has certainly cast a spell on me!
Super Mario Kyle
Heidi-  Every girl needs to be a princess at least once, right?

Jared as Thomas the Train "Choo-Choo!"

I thought this was hilarious so I had to post a picture of it.  This is Jared's solution to not being able to open the candy wrappers from his Halloween candy.  He just took a big bite out of it, wrapper and all!
Jordan was the classic "Hot Chilli Pepper".
A happy boy at bath time!
Jared wanted to help his little baby brother to be happy so he threw a bunch of baby toys in his crib.
Wouldn't want him to not have anything to play with, right?

Halloween 2011

We had a fun Halloween this year.  The kids were really excited about their costumes and dressing up.   I put a lot of work into making Erika into a ROBOT.   It was funny because she wore this costume to the ward party on Oct 28th and could not reach her mouth with her hand, so we had to help her eat.

Kyle had fun being a mummy on Halloween.  Doesn't he look creepy?  He likes the spooky ones.
This was his first year at the Elementary school so he got to be in the Halloween parade, which he was so excited about.

I put together a "Halloween Costume Exchange" this year through the Relief Society, which went pretty well.  Anyone who had extra costumes from previous years could bring them and then choose from what was there.  I figured this could be a blessing for anyone who would have otherwise had to go out and buy a costume that only gets worn once.  I have a huge tub of costumes stored away as I'm sure most people do.   This was nice for me, too, so that some of the younger kids didn't have to be the same thing their siblings were in the past.

A "care bear",  perfect for my little Heidi.
She got to wear her costume to school for a
Halloween party and was so excited!
Jared was a little mouse.   He knows he is cute.
The kids had a lot of fun trick-or-treating this year and even more fun eating the candy afterward!

All four of them anxiously waiting to go trick-or-treating.

Halloween 2010

At Erika's school with some of her friends for the Halloween parade.

All the kids getting ready to go trick-or-treating

We had a fun Halloween this year.   I took it a little easier on the costumes this year.  All I really had to make was the wig for Erika's costume.  She was "Jessie" from Toy Story.  Heidi wore the giraffe costume that Erika wore a long time ago, Jared wore the classic hot pepper costume Heidi wore 3 years ago, and Kyle, well, he just wore his pajamas  :)   I am not afraid to recycle!

Erika as Jessie from Toy Story
Kyle was Superman

What a cute little hot pepper!

We have a great neighborhood for trick-or-treating so that's what we do every year.  We go from house to house where there are a lot of good people we can trust.  We LOVE our neighborhood!!!  There are lots of young families with children.   We also enjoy all the kids who come in their costumes.

Oma and Opa came up tonight to spend Halloween with the kids and go around the neighborhood.   The next day at church was our primary program, which I was leading the music for so they also got to be there for that.   We were so glad to have them come!!
Heidi looks like she doesn't have a clue, but really, out of all the kids she was
the most excited about trick-or-treating and candy and didn't want to stop!

Halloween

We had a great time this Halloween. Erika decided she wanted to be a mummy for Halloween so I made her costume. It ended up being a bigger project than I thought it would be so I was up until 11 pm the night before, gluing and cutting. She got to wear her costume for the Garland Elementary parade the day before Halloween and it was fun to go and watch her at the school. It is fun to see all the kids dressed up and having a good time. Erika ended up winning an award at the end of the day for "The Best Mummy in the School". Yeah!!! (There was more than one mummy- I promise.)
Kyle wanted to be a skeleton this year so I made him a costume and he got to wear it to preschool the Thursday before for a little Halloween party. I was going to paint the bones with "Glow-in-The-Dark" paint but got too busy and so he wasn't quite as cool as he could've been but I don't think he cared.
Heidi, of course, was an adorable bunny and just happy to wear whatever we put on her. She was smiling so big. (I think she knew she looked dang cute and wasn't afraid to flaunt it).
Halloween night, we went out as early as we could and the kids had so much fun, they didn't want to go home, even though it was well past bedtime. We have a great trick-or-treating neighborhood with most everyone home and people we know so it makes things easy. Also, the weather was simply wonderful. We brought Lucky along and he had fun saying "Hello" to many new people. Aaron and I took shifts with the kids and each took a block. I took Heidi in the stroller and she kept climbing in and then wanting to get out at every door. (This made it a long process!) At our house, we had over 100 trick-or-treaters and hardly much time to sit down in-between. It was a great night. My favorite part was just how excited my kids were to get out, especially when they saw all the candy.
